简介：Walter Neff (played by Fred MacMurray) is a successful insurance agent who finds himself entangled in a dangerous plot. One night, he returns to his office and starts recounting his story into a recording device. In order to secure the insurance policy of Mr. Dietrichson, Neff pays a visit to his house. However, Mr. Dietrichson is not home, and Neff encounters Phyllis Dietrichson (played by Barbara Stanwyck), Mr. Dietrichson's alluring new wife. As Neff spends more time with Phyllis, he becomes suspicious of her intentions and she begins to share her dissatisfaction with her husband. During their second meeting, Neff succumbs to his desires and agrees to participate in Phyllis' plan to kill her husband. Their scheme involves staging an accident on a train that Mr. Dietrichson will be on, making it appear as if he fell to his death. This plan would allow them to collect the "double indemnity" insurance payout. Everything seems to go according to plan, and Mr. Dietrichson is indeed killed. Neff and Phyllis believe they have secured both their love and financial security. However, Neff's colleague, insurance investigator Barton Keyes (played by Edward G. Robinson), begins to suspect foul play and starts digging deeper into the case. As Keyes investigates, the web of deceit begins to unravel, threatening to expose Neff and Phyllis. Adapted from James M. Cain's novel of the same name, this film was co-written by director Billy Wilder and detective novelist Raymond Chandler. It received seven nominations at the 17th Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
